The following projects were completed during the interior design program at East Carolina University. While attending East Carolina University, I learned about both residential and commercial spaces. Post graduation, I have gained practical experience working with residential clients.
Senior Condo
Research - Aging in Place

Familiarity benefits seniors with Alzheimer's and dementia.

Universal design principles are used to help seniors age in place. ​They are equitable use, flexibility in use, simple and intuitive, perceptible information, tolerance for error, low physical effort, and size and space for approach and use.

Aesthetics

Neutral colors with an accent color are easy on the eyes. Blues and greens promote restfulness.

Artwork related to the local scenery or seasons that are familiar to the residents.
Sustainability

Use of recycled materials, energy-efficient appliances, lighting, windows, responsibly sourced wood, repurposed materials, local manufacturers, artists, and fabricators.
Stakeholder Profiles

Owner: The owner would like an interior that is safe for seniors, complies with ADA guidelines, and is aesthetically pleasing so it attracts tenants.

Client: The client would like a universal design to aid in aging in place.

User: Users would like a condo they can age in place in, that complies with universal design and ADA guidelines, and caters to disabled people with diseases and ailments such as Alzheimer's, dementia, and vision loss. There are wheelchair accessible floors, doorways, cabinets, countertops, storage, and bathrooms.
Wellness

Multipurpose space for socializing with friends, family, and grandchildren.

Space for seniors to use technology, go on the computer and watch TV. (Ability to check the news and email aids in familiarity).

Outdoor spaces aid seniors’ holistic wellness.

LED lighting helps with sleep patterns, reducing anxiety, Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.
